7 Beginner Crochet Tips

Learning a new craft can be overwhelming, hey learning anything new can be the same. But as crocheting has been reported to be easier than knitting and more fun, well have fun while learning!!! My website contains step by step instructions how to crochet. Look at the bottom of this article. Here are some tips for now...

1. PRACTICE:

Ok, so this tip is a no-brainer. Practice makes perfect. I would advise that you get yourself some yarn and a needle and just practice all the stitches. Once you become familiar with the stitches you will just look at a pattern and know how to make it - besides the fact that you will be able to manipulate the stitches to create your own masterpieces!.

2. LEARN HOW TO READ ABBREVIATIONS:

Crochet pattern instructions are given in a abbreviations. Becoming familiar with what they mean will speed up the time you take to create a project. I learned the abbreviations as I went along taking special note what each means.

3. LEARN ABBREVIATIONS THE SIMPLE WAY:

The best way to learn is to do. The way I learnt the abbreviations in crocheting is to print a pattern and in the margins of the page write in long hand what the abbreviation means. That way I didn't get stuck.

4. FIND SOME SIMPLE PATTERNS

At my website you will find many patterns for beginner, intermediate and advanced crocheters. Print them out and start collecting them. I have many, many patterns in a folder. I admit I'm a pattern addict!

5. ARE YOU ABOUT TO CREATE YOUR FIRST CROCHET PROJECT?

Start with a simple, smaller pattern and use a bigger thread. As you get experienced you will be able to use the finer threads.

6. ARE YOU EXPERIENCING LOOSING YOUR PLACE?

One thing that has helped me is to print out a pattern I like, then on a notepad write each instruction at a time so I won't loose my place. Writing it again also helped me read the pattern better.

7. CHOOSE A LIGHTER YARN COLOR:

A lighter yarn color is easier to see than a darker one. With a darker one its less easier to see the stitches. You will have a problem at the start trying to learn the abbreviations as you go along.... don't make things even more difficult by choosing dark colors!
